About the Role


The Nickel West Data Analytics team sits at the heart of the Nickel West Integrated Operations department. We provide analysis and insights for the entire Nickel West supply chain, which makes our work dynamic and varied, with analysis covering several Mines, Concentrators, a Smelter and Refinery, and the Logistics systems that keep everything working together in harmony.


We've recently developed a new Supply Chain Planning Tool, which brings together several amazing concepts to generate data driven insights and production plans for our business. We're excited to be growing the team to help accelerate development of this fantastic tool and use it to help launch the Nickel West business forward.

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents (Our Requirements) , Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations

  • Support development and use of the Nickel West Supply Chain Planning Tool
  • Engage and support end users and turn their feedback into improvement packages, then implement those improvements (primarily using Python) to improve the tool
  • In addition to implementing improvements, our team also uses the tool to analyse business performance, and explore impacts of productivity improvements, capital projects, maintenance activities and alternative operational strategies.
  • Translate improvements and results into understandable story for users – through visualisations and verbal presentations
  • Support a collaborative and inclusive team culture

About You


  • Degree in mathematical/computer science
    • e.g. computer science, data analytics. engineering, science, mathematics, statistics, operations research or related analytics disciplines

Skills:


  • Mandatory
    • Attitude and passion are just as important as technical skills in this role. We are looking for someone with a passion for coding who can use their skills to deliver reliable analysis and new insights. They need to be able work autonomously to deliver outcomes and deliverables as required, but also engage others and collaborate.
    • Excellent communication skills, able to engage with diverse audiences and be persuasive
    • Ability to prioritise effectively and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team
    • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make pragmatic decisions
  • Desirable
    • Advanced knowledge of Python
    • Basic knowledge of Git and SQL
    • Data engineering skills including assessing data quality, consistency, integrity, performing data cleaning & imputation and constructing advanced features
    • An understanding of Machine Learning and Optimisation techniques, and Data visualization

Experience:


  • Highly desirable:
    • Translating insights into compelling visualisations – being able to tell a story with data
    • Ability to apply statistical concepts to perform descriptive analytics
    • Critically developing, evaluating and deploying predictive models
    • Advanced experience applying Python (or similar) to solve data science problems
    • Capable of working unsupervised and managing time effectively
